Ethiopia: Tigray Grants Investment Permits to 55 Investors with a Collective Capital of Birr 20 Billion
The Investment Commission of the Tigray Regional State's Interim Administration has announced that 55 investors with registered capital exceeding Birr 20 billion in the Tigray Region have been granted investment permits. These permits were granted to investors engaged in socially and economically beneficial fields, primarily in agro-processing, manufacturing, construction equipment supply, tourist accommodation, and mining, from January to June 2023, according to the Development Investment Management Division of the Commission. The licensed investors are expected to create job opportunities for 10,000 young people when they launch their production and services next year. Earnings of Ethiopia-Djibouti railway up 35 pct
ADDIS ABABA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese-built Ethiopia-Djibouti railway has transported 2.1 million tonnes of cargo during the Ethiopian fiscal year 2022/2023 ending on July 7 with earnings increasing 35 percent from the previous period, an official said on Sunday. Aminu Juhar, chief corporate strategy officer at Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (EDR), said the 752.7-km rail line also transported 124,000 passengers during the fiscal year. Juhar said the EDR is able to earn 3.3 billion birr (about 60.1 million U.S. dollars) during the past fiscal year, up 35 percent from the previous fiscal year. The EDR official attributed the increase in revenue due to new goods such as vehicles. The Ethiopia-Djibouti standard gauge railway, also known as the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway, was contracted by China Rail Engineering Corporation and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

A traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony was performed by Martha Lupai, owner of S & E Food Market on Jefferson Street. She demonstrated how making coffee is truly an experience in and of itself. In Ethiopia, the coffee ceremony is usually performed three times a day by women in the same community.

10 People Died in Silte Zone Road Crashes – Ethiopian Monitor
ADDIS ABABA – At least 10 people were killed in two subsequent car accidents in the Silte Zone of southern Ethiopia. The fatal road crashes involving two midsize trucks and a rickshaw occurred in the Western Azerinet district around 10:00 p.m. Friday, the Silte Zone communication bureau. The first truck on the way to Hosanna from Wolkite crashed head-on with a rickshaw at a junction known as Deje. All the passengers in the rickshaw immediately died while the driver sustained a relatively minor injury.
