Today, on the lawns of one of Cairo’s upscale sporting clubs, Samir’s restaurant ‘Kush Children’s Village’ serves up a fusion menu. “The name was my father’s idea, inspired by the Bible,” she said, explaining the reference to Kush, the ancient kingdom that straddled modern-day Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. “We serve all three cuisines,” she said proudly, but insisted the restaurant is still distinctly Sudanese. “But the war’s not ending,” she said, resigned to finding ways to remind herself of the homeland she longs for. “I want to hire a henna artist in the restaurant, I know Egyptians love that,” she said with a laugh.

“I invite everyone to pray for Sudan, where the war that has lasted over a year has yet to find a peaceful solution. The Pope urged international leaders and Sudanese authorities to help Sudan and its many displaced people. As the Pope appealed for peace, time seems to be running out for millions of people in Sudan, who are at imminent risk of famine. Now, as the war drags on, humanitarian organisations have sent a stark warning, saying the warring parties are preventing aid from reaching the population. It would be interesting to learn from Biden which Israeli came up with this plan. Biden’s “Israeli” plan sounded c,omprehensive but it wasn’t, and it didn’t sound right. According to Biden we would get all our hostages after we release several hundred merciless killers and accept a ceasefire that would become a permanent cessation in fighting. In other words, Biden’s Israel plan gifts a victory to Hamas. But Biden broke that sacred bond in a cynical political manner.

SouthWest State Refutes distortion on Ethiopian Troop Withdrawal from SomaliaBAIDOA, Somalia - The SouthWest State Ministry of Internal Security has publicly addressed and refuted claims made by Hussein Moalim, the National Security Advisor to the Somali President, regarding the role of Ethiopian troops in the post-African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) mission. Moalim, who announced the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops by December 2024, has been met with strong opposition from the SouthWest State Ministry. The SouthWest State Ministry's stance against Moalim's remarks underscores the complex security dynamics currently at play in Somalia, both during the transition period following the withdrawal of ATMIS troops and in the aftermath of this significant development. Ethiopian troops control large swathes of territory in Somalia, mainly in the Bay and Bakool regions under Southwest State. As the situation continues to evolve, the impact of this dispute between the SouthWest State and the Somali government on the broader security landscape in Somalia remains to be seen.

CAIRO: Sudanese entrepreneur Julie Samir’s dream of opening a restaurant has finally come true, but it’s a bittersweet achievement after she fled Egypt from her war-torn homeland of Sudan. In the suburb of Sheikh Zayed, west of Cairo, Sudanese confectioner Qussay Biram’s dessert shop, “Jeeb Maak” — Arabic for “Bring Along” — sells deep-fried dough balls called ‘luqaimat’. “I want to hire a henna artist in the restaurant, I know Egyptians love that,” she said with a laugh.

Ethiopia will never be our ally, Somalia saysMOGADISHU, Somalia - Somalia says the Federal Republic of Ethiopia will never be its ally, noting that Addis Ababa has continuously violated its territorial integrity and sovereignty, adding that Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) will be leaving the country by the end of 2024. Ethiopia is one of the major security and development partners of Somalia before the recent fallout. For almost two decades, ENDF has been serving in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), contributing about 4,000 troops. The Ethiopian troops are credited for enforcing stability in several parts of Somalia. Hussein Sheikh Ali made the remarks a day after he disclosed that Somalia expects all Ethiopian troops to leave Somalia in seven months, unlike other AU troop-contributing countries that will play a role in the ATMIS Somalia mission.
