Ethiopian resumes daily flights to ancient city
Ethiopian Airlines Group said it resumed its daily passenger flights to the historic city of Axum, in the northern part of the country, from June 9, 2024, following the completion of $5 million maintenance work on both the airfield and terminal facilities. The new service aims at connecting travellers to the rich cultural heritage of Axum, home to the ancient Axumite Kingdom, and it is a significant symbol of Ethiopia as an origin to one of the oldest civilisations. Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, said: “We are truly pleased for reinstating our flights to Axum, a cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its cultural significance. As a national carrier, we are determined to invest in and improve our flight offerings nationwide.’’The airline currently serves 20 domestic destinations. In our pursuit of excellence, we are dedicated to expanding our domestic reach and enhancing the quality of services.

Maun, the tourism capital of Botswana, has become Ethiopian’s second destination in the country after Gaborone, which has been served since 2016. At the flight inaugural ceremony Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, said, “The addition of Maun into our African connectivity enables travelers from Maun to enjoy facilitated connectivity to Ethiopian vast global network that exceeds 135 destinations.”He noted that the commencement of the new flight to the city strengthen the tourism, trade and the overall socio-economic ties between Botswana and Ethiopian global destinations. The Airlines managed to establish a convenient intra- Africa and global connections via its main hub in Addis Ababa. Botswanan Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Tebelelo Alfred Boang and the airlines’ management staffs attended the launching ceremony.

MoE plans school infrastructure audit
The Education Ministry will soon conduct an audit of all school infrastructure. Permanent Secretary Selina Kuruleca says with the need for more classroom spaces, the Finance Ministry has requested for an audit and master plan. Kuruleca says from this plan, they will identify the sites, with five already in mind. Two Nigeria’s Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Pass Away in Saudi Arabia’s Madina Tragedies
In a tragic turn of events, the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board has reported the death of two pilgrims in Madina, Saudi Arabia. The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, in a statement released to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday. The pilgrims’ board expressed deep regret over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, acknowledging the will of Allah in all matters. Ethiopian Airlines Resumes Flights Service to Axum City – Ethiopian Monitor
Ethiopian Airlines has resumed its daily passenger flight services to the city of Axum, Tigray as of Today June 9, 2024. Flights were stopped due to the destruction of the airport during the war in the north that ended in Nov 2022. The airlines reinstated reinstate the daily flights following the completion of extensive maintenance work on both the airfield and terminal facilities. The maintenance project was carried out with a contract amount of 290 million Birr, per the airlines. The airlines is now preparing to unveil the Wako Gutu Airport Terminal in Bale Robe soon, a town in south-central Oromia Region.
