By David GaffenNEW YORK (Reuters) -Oil prices dropped nearly 2% on Wednesday, pulling back from multi-year highs, as an unexpected rise in U.S. crude inventories prompted buyers to take a breather after recent torrid gains. U.S. crude inventories rose by 2.3 million barrels last week, against expectations for a modest dip of 418,000 barrels, the U.S. Energy Department said. “We saw some profit taking as oil had run up significantly,” said Gary Cunningham, director at Tradition Energy in Stamford, Conn. The United States ended a 40-year ban on crude exports in late 2015 and now ships out more than 3 million barrels of crude daily. “I don’t think we’re at a point where we want to limit exports of crude oil or natural gas,” Cunningham said.

Russia might rebrand LGBTQ organizations as “extremist” groups in order to ban them. LGBTQ groups, as well as radical feminist and child-free groups, would be considered “extremism,” under a new proposal from Russia’s communications regulator, the Moscow Times reports. In practice, it would allow Russia to treat LGBTQ groups like neo-Nazi organizations and those considered opponents of the government or enemies of the state. Russia’s ban on “gay propaganda” has been internationally condemned for discriminating against LGBTQ people. The European Court of Human Rights has twice ruled that Russia’s propaganda ban violates the rights of LGBTQ people and LGBTQ organizations.

PARIS (Reuters) – Chinese fashion labels, including Shang Xia, Icicle and Fosun Fashion Group, are embracing Paris as a springboard for their international ambitions, opening flagship stores in the city and hiring French designers to burnish their credentials. “Chinese luxury brands are still quite niche,” Kathryn Parker, a luxury sector analyst with Jefferies, said. Shang Xia showed its commitment to Paris when it held its first fashion show on Monday on the official Paris Fashion Week schedule, sending a lineup of models in polished suits in bright colours along a circular runway. “It’s a very bold move to do a show in Paris Fashion Week,” said Exor managing director Suzanne Heywood, who is also chairman of Shang Xia. Icicle’s founders chose Paris over London, New York and Milan for their investment, setting up design studios, and recruiting talent from French luxury labels.

A gay staffer for First Lady Melania Trump was allegedly fired after White House officials discovered his Grindr account during the security clearance process, former White House aide Stephanie Grisham claims in a tell-all memoir about her time serving as Trump’s press secretary. The move came in response to negative press that the Trump White House received after it was revealed that former White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter had been granted clearance despite having been accused of allegedly physically abusing two of his ex-wives. “Whoever determined security clearances had come across his Grindr account and decided that some of the stuff on it would be ‘personally embarrassing’ to Mrs. Trump,” Grisham wrote. Grisham attributes Melania Trump’s inaction as part of the “transactional nature of the Trump White House.”“If the person had truly been removed solely because he was gay and had a lively Grindr account, that was wrong. This was a White House filled with adulterers,” Grisham wrote in the book.
