The settlement resolves all outstanding issues relating to the reserve bonus and also ends a 1.2% royalty from a contingent payment agreement (CPA) prior to its involvement at Logbaba. Details of the deal are confidential but VOG said the terms were not materially different to the reserve bonus and contingency provisions. In the 2015 accounts, the reserve bonus provision was around US$8.5mln. The termination of the CPA as part of the settlement was also a significant benefit to shareholders in terms of future profitability, he added.

According to our source who met the two boys at the State Counsel’s office in Mundemba, the incident happened yesterday in Kumbe Balindo. There is another school of thought that someone could be using these children to finish a crime he/she started. The two were arrested for illegal possession of 128 kg of scales from the giant pangolin which is listed in class A of the wildlife law giving the species total protection . Pangolin scales are fast becoming a commodity of choice for wildlife traffickers who have the necessary organizational skills and logistics to handle because they are bulky. Recently online reports say over 4 tons of pangolin scales were seized in Hong Kong. The rising scale of the trade is obliging some conservationists to call for a destruction of scales stocks pilled from seizures.
