Our latest collaboration is a book called “Mildred’s Mindset: Wisdom From a Woman Centenarian.” This came about because Mom’s fans kept asking for it. Following “Mildred’s Mindset” will be the release of my memoir “Bullied to Besties,” which tells the story of my mother trauma and our reconciliation. Two Ashuganj units halt power production partially after storm
Garbage and hyacinths stuck in water supply pipes after a storm have forced a partial halt on production at two units of Ashuganj Power Station in Brahmanbaria. The pipes got clogged by the garbage and hyacinths from the Meghna River during a storm on Friday night, shutting the north and south steam turbines, according to a bdnews24.com. The two units with a total capacity to produce 700 MW of electricity were producing 400 MW because of the disruption, said the power station's Executive Director Md Abdul Mazid. The authorities were repairing the pipes to normalise production and the work was expected to complete by Saturday night, he said. The power plant has six units, including two combined cycle units that need water from the river to keep their steam turbines running.

Fire engulfs Sundarbans forest
News Desk :A fire has engulfed the Amurbunia area of the Chandpai range in the Sundarbans in Bagerhat amid the extreme heat. The Department of Forest and villagers were working to bring the fire under control on Saturday afternoon, reports bdnews24.comDivisional Forest Officer Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim of Sundarbans East said the workers of the department rushed to douse the fire after seeing smoke earlier in the afternoon. It was unclear how the fire started and what kinds of plants are in the area. The mangrove forest is situated in the southwest of Bangladesh, a region most affected by a relentless heatwave. The Sundarbans house the world’s largest mangrove forests, which are home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including the Royal Bengal Tiger.

India lifts ban on onion exports
News Desk :India has lifted the ban on onion exports, a move that will bring huge relief to traders in Maharashtra, the Times of India reports. The decision comes just before the next phases of the Lok Sabha election, particularly in the onion belts in Maharashtra, reports bdnews24.comIn a notification on Saturday, the Director General of Foreign Trade, or DGFT, fixed the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for onion at $550 per tonne, the TOI said. While putting onion export under the “prohibited” category, the Indian government had been allowing limited exports after getting requests from some countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and UAE. Onion traders and farmers, particularly from Maharashtra, had been demanding to lift the ban arguing this would help farmers get better prices. But the government did not relent, fearing export of the key kitchen item may push up domestic prices.

Gazipur college student stabbed to death
UNB :A 19-year-old college student has been stabbed to death allegedly by some muggers in Gazipur. The incident took place in the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute area of Sadar police station of the city on Saturday (May 4) around 4:45pm. The deceased Al Amin was a resident of the Chandana area of Gazipur metropolis. At one point, they tried to snatch the mobile phone from Al Amin. When Al Amin stopped them, one of them stabbed him on the left side of his chest, leaving him dead on the spot.

The Meteorological Department issues the latest warning for four divisionsThe ongoing heatwave will continue to scorch large swathes of Bangladesh for at least one day, the Meteorological Department has said in its latest heat warning. It issued the warning for Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions, which are experiencing mild to moderate heatwave, on Saturday evening. The nationwide highest temperature on Saturday was recorded at 39.7 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi. In Dhaka, the highest temperature was 36.9 degrees Celsius. It is the second highest temperature recorded in Bangladesh’s history.
