Matt’s Take: Rock bottom Reds
The last week of Reds baseball has nearly been unwatchable. I’ve never turned a Reds game off, but I was very close on Sunday, as the Reds continued one of the worst offensive droughts in their history. The Reds are now batting 209 collectively, as a team, which statistically makes them the worst offensive team in all of baseball (Woof). I believe the Reds will turn it around, but drastic times should result in drastic measures. The year 2024 has been the best year of my life and the Reds will turn it around soon to add to this awesome year.

Two Bangladeshis shot dead by India’s BSF near Panchagarh border
Locals say a group of men had gone to the border area and were fired upon by the Indian border security force early on WednesdayTwo Bangladeshi men have been killed by gunfire from India’s Border Security Force near the border in Panchagarh’s Tentulia. The incident occurred near the Khoighat Para border early on Wednesday, according to Lt Col Jubayed Hassan, commander of the 18th BGB Battalion. The dead were identified as 24-year-old Abdul Jalil from Tentulia’s Magura area and 23-year-old Yasin Ali from the Tiranihat Brammatal area. Locals say a group of men had gone to the border area early in the morning when they were fired upon by the BSF. The dead have been identified, but the local administration and their families have yet to file a complaint, said Lt Col Jubayed.

7-year-old boy injured in Rangamati gunfight, dies
News Desk :Romeo Tripura, the boy who wounded in a gunfight between two armed ethnic minority groups in the remote hills of Baghaichari Upazila in Rangamati, has succumbed to his injuries. He was admitted to Chattogram Medical College hospital on Feb 12 with injuries, reports bdnews24.comThe 7-year-old died while receiving treatment in the port city on Tuesday, said Baghaichari Upazila executive officer Shireen Akter. Romeo was the son of Proben Tripura from Shialdahalui Mauza of Sajek Union in the Upazila. Proben said the physicians advised them to move Romeo to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit from CMCH around 11pm on Monday but there was no seat available at PICU at the time. “He was rushed to a dental hospital where the doctor recommended we put him on life support, which was not available there.

Prolonged heat wave threatens lychee production
The persistent heat in Dinajpur, the northern district famous for production of the juicy summer fruit, is threatening this season’s lychee crops. Farmers say lychee trees were filled with buds at the start of the season, but the heat has caused lychees to fall while they are still small. Farmers are continuing to try different ways to ensure they get a good harvest this year, reports bdnews24.com. This year, though the lychee trees budded, the adverse weather has had an impact. Sertoma fundraising to replace playground at Beatrice's Astro Park
The Beatrice Sertoma is kicking off a fundraiser to help the city replace playground equipment in Astro Park. “I live close to the park and during the summer, it seems like splash pad is always packed,” he said. Sertoma raised the funds to add the splash pad in 2019. Checks for supporting the project can be sent to Beatrice Sertoma Club at PO Box 154, Beatrice, NE 68310. The Beatrice Sertoma Club meets every Monday at noon at the Vet’s Club.

The pandemic and the ensuing cancellation of the 2020-21 season, Daniel’s sophomore year, would mark a personal turning point for Daniel. “When we learned we weren’t playing, I chose to go back home to Minnesota instead of staying enrolled at Cornell,” Daniel said. “I think that’s when I realized we have a really great team in here and we have a great group, and we could do some really special things,” Daniel said. In her senior season, Daniel embarked on her first NCAA tournament — what was painfully taken away in 2019-20 finally arrived four years later.
