Malcorra, who formerly served as Ban’s chef de cabinet at the UN, garnered seven “encourage” votes, seven “discourage” votes and one abstention — an identical result to the previous round of voting. Lajcak’s candidacy surged in the previous straw poll from two “encourage” votes in the second round to nine in the third round. Malcorra said while attending a UN conference on peacekeeping in London earlier this week that she had not received any “discourage” votes from any of the P5 so far. However, certain traditional conventions have influenced previous votes.

Malvinas government non-committal on renewal of direct flights
“The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has seen the articles in the media attributed to the Argentine Foreign Minister, Susana Malcorra. FIG is actively working on the business case for flights from third countries in South America,” the statement said. In conversation with the Herald, the FIG made it clear that the plans did not currently include Argentina. Changes to that position, if any, would come after a visit by the UK Minister of State for the Americas Sir Alan Duncan to Buenos Aires next week. The statement also confirmed that UK Minister of state for the Americas and the Falkland Islands, Sir Alan Duncan, will “be in Buenos Aires next week,” according to the FIG.

It is becoming increasingly unlikely that Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra will be the next secretary general of the United Nations. Let’s recap on the voting process: there are 15 members of the Security Council, five of that have veto power: the US, the UK, France, Russia and China. Another Security Council straw poll is set to be held on September 26th before a general vote on October 17th. Even Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he wants his replacement to be a woman, noting it’s ridiculous that the organization that was founded 70 years ago has always been led by men. Dolina, who is also an actor and composer, first started the show in 1993, weaving in elements of music and theatre with political commentary and debate. Argentina Wins Gold In Paralympics For The First Time In 20 Years
Yanina Andrea Martínez made history today when she became the first Argentine athlete to win a gold medal at the Paralympics since Atlanta in 1996. Martínez won first place in the 100-meter race at the 2016 Rio Paralympic games with a time of 14.46 seconds. Claudia Nicoleitzik from Germany came in second with a time of 14.64 seconds, while Colombia’s Florian Hernandez won the bronze medal with 14.71 seconds.
