Black Ferns Director of Coaching Wayne Smith said alongside Assistant Coaches Wesley Clarke and Whitney Hansen, they were pleased to name a settled team. It will be the fourth time the teams have met in a Rugby World Cup Final, most recently the Black Ferns coming from behind to win 41-32 in Ireland in 2017. There have only been three Tests between the nations since the last Rugby World Cup, the Black Ferns winning in San Diego in 2019 – England’s last defeat before going on a 30-match winning streak, including two wins over the Black Ferns last year.

Commerce Minister David Clark is forcing banks to share data. Known as "open banking" the changes mean banks will be required to seamlessly share a customer's data with a competing bank, should the customer request it. The practice is already common in the United Kingdom and in Australia, where New Zealand's big four banks' parent banks are based. "Open banking ensures banks must share customer information if they request it, making it easier for New Zealanders to compare mortgage rates, apply for loans and switch banks. Banks have already begun proactively updating systems to be ready for open banking.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced he was ordering the withdrawal of troops across the Dnieper River. Gen. Sergei Surovikin, the commander of Russian forces in Ukraine, said the troops could be relocated elsewhere. The withdrawal comes on the same day that Kirill Stremousov, the Russian-installed deputy civilian administrator of the Kherson region, died in a car accident. Ukrainian military officials said Wednesday that nearly 800 Russian soldiers were killed in fighting throughout the country over the past day. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops remained intense along the front line in the south and east.

A person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, after a workplace accident in Woolston, Christchurch. St John said they responded to an incident on Maunsell St around 12.30pm. Fire and Emergency New Zealand also responded. “One person has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition,” a statement from the ambulance service said. Police confirmed the address was a commercial premises but were not required to attend the incident.

Maria has been placed with a foster family while police investigate her mother and grandparents for their role in hiding her away. Contact continued until Maria was around six months old, when a note on his windshield from Maria’s mother told him that she was moving the pair to Italy. He was provided with an address in Italy but his suspicions were raised when he saw Maria’s mother in Attendorn in September 2015. He has reportedly said he wants custody of the girl so he can show her the world and lead a “normal family life”.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has published an interesting report on the sychronised house price busts taking place across Australia, New Zealand and Canada, which follows the world’s biggest price booms in the years leading up to the pandemic. Accordingly, Oxford Economics believes Australia, New Zealand and Canada are among the markets most at risk for large house price declines. It tips home prices in Canada could fall 30% and New Zealand prices could drop 20%. Whereas recently released documents from the Reserve Bank of Australia show that house prices in Australia could plunge 20%. After experiencing record house price booms on the back of rock bottom rates, Australia, New Zealand and Canada now face record busts as monetary conditions tighten at their fastest pace on record.

BNZ's annual profit rose 7% to a fresh record high as income, lending and net interest margins all grew. Earlier this week Westpac NZ posted record annual profit of $1.047 billion. Last month ANZ NZ posted record annual profit of $2.299 billion. And in August ASB posted record annual profit of $1.471 billion. That means the big four banks combined posted annual net profit after tax of $6.231 billion.

Three people have been injured, one seriously, after separate crashes in Canterbury this morning. Two people were injured in a crash at the corner of Buchanans Rd and Mary Carpenter Ave, Yaldhurst, about 7.20am on Wednesday, a police spokesperson said. A St John spokesperson said they were both taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries. It comes after a person was seriously injured in a crash on State Highway 7, near Lewis Pass, about 5am today. A St John ambulance transported the person to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
