Co-governance could be seen as simple consultation over property rights, and consultation is what happens now with changes that affect property rights for any New Zealander. And history shows that a few Maori MP’s in Parliament were woefully inadequate to protect Maori land property rights. And this dominance will continue without co-goverance, or at the very least a better constitution than we have now. In terms of co-governance impacts on democracy, and this seems to be the area of concern in the article; I can’t see it. If you want to improve democracy you need a quality written constitution.

According to the latest survey the expectation in five years' time is that inflation will be on 2.44%, up from 2.33% in the survey three months ago. And now, with inflation expectations pushing higher, there’s a risk that the inflation cycle could be even more protracted. The last of those three data releases was not released before this survey was actually conducted, but the inflation figures most certainly were. In many respects this survey series can increasingly be viewed as a measure of the RBNZ's credibility in achieving its inflation target. Personally, I think these survey results - which will have a big influence on the RBNZ - make at least a 75-point rise a slam dunk.

For many in Christchurch, a city of nearly 370,000, the sentencing was an opportunity to start healing from the shooting. Earlier in 2020, Tarrant pleaded guilty after a surprise reversal of his original plea, but he has now appealed both the sentencing and conviction, New Zealand’s court of appeals confirmed Tuesday. “This is rather a blatant and calculated attempt to retraumatise the Christchurch victims specifically and the nation as a whole. We should give him nothing.”In the days following the massacre in 2019, Ardern pledged to change the country’s gun laws. The theory was also present in screeds left by shooters in El Paso in 2019 and Buffalo earlier this year.

The only area where Kiwi households expect to spend significantly more is groceries, which reflects soaring inflation:By contrast, discretionary spending on things like eating out, technology and furniture has been decimated. To add further insult to injury, the majority of Kiwi borrowers are on fixed rate mortgages of two years or less. This situation will change next year when these fixed rate mortgage terms begin expiring en masse. Thousands of Kiwi borrowers will soon be reset at significantly higher (perhaps double) mortgage rates, which will slash their disposable income and supress their spending. This is when the full impact of the RBNZ’s monetary tightening will fully hit Kiwi households and the economy, with a consumer-led recession a distinct possibility.

[Image: stuff.co.nz]Flying Fijians lock Ratu Leone Rotuisolia has been the talk of the Autumn Nations Series about his crunching tackle on Scotland’s flyhalf Adam Hastings. Rotuisolia’s hit was described perfect legal monstrous tackle as it leaves Hastings with so much pain that he was forced off the field. The Fiji Drua lock made his mark on his international debut and is expected to be in coach Vern Cotter’s books for this week’s clash against the world number 1 Ireland. Meanwhile, Cotter is expected to reshuffle his backline again with Teti Tela and Ben Volavola an option at flyhalf while Filimoni Botitu is expected to be shifted to the midfield or even to the back three. The Flying Fijians will take on Ireland at 1am Sunday.

For Growth’s Sake“Growth For The Sake Of Growth Is The Ideology Of A Cancer Cell”Edward Abbey, American EnvironmentalistWant to stop War? We’ve contended that infinite growth on a finite planet is a recipe for catastrophe.”Infinite growth on a finite planet is a recipe for catastrophe. Infinite growth on a finite planet is not just the cause of biosphere collapse. As competing growth economies bump up against each other, in the search for export markets, for resources, for cheap labour, war is the end result. Stop Growth!

A group of people fishing on a Coromandel charter got more than they bargained for when a large Mako shark jumped in their boat giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience as well as an almighty fright. Churches told the Herald it was the first time he’s ever witnessed a shark jumping into a boat, describing the incident as "bonkers". I told the customers ‘if it jumps in the boat get out of the way’. After crash landing on the boat, the Mako was thrashing around trying to escape for a maximum of "two-minutes tops". "The shark hit the water, did another massive jump and landed about 1m off the boat, which scared the shit out of us.
