CAIRO - 25 June 2021: Egyptian Ambassador in London Tarek Adel managed to restore three ancient artifacts dating back to the Pharaonic and Greek eras before being sold in an auction hall in London, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday. The move comes as part of Egypt's tireless efforts to restore precious artifacts that were smuggled out of the country. The statement highlighted efforts by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the ministry of antiquities and tourism to preserve Egyptian heritage and bring back all smuggled artifacts. The ambassador lauded fruitful cooperation between the Egyptian government and the British Museum to stop the sale of these priceless artifacts. No more information was available on the owners of these artifacts or how they were smuggled out of Egypt.

CAIRO – 24 April 2021: The trade exchange between Egypt and the countries of the Eurasian Union amounted to about $4.69 billion in 2020, according to Minister of Trade and Industry, Nevin Gamea. The minister said in a statement Thursday that the Egyptian government is keen to speed up the pace of negotiations on a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Union countries to finalize it in the near next stage. She pointed out that the agreement will contribute to strengthening and developing joint relations between Egypt and the countries of the Union, which includes the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan in various economic, trade and investment fields. This came during a session of the minister's expanded talks with Andrei Slepnev, Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Union, at the conclusion of the meetings of the fourth round of free trade negotiations between Egypt and the Eurasian Union countries, which concluded today, Thursday, in the Russian capital, Moscow. The Egyptian side also referred to the importance of working on the importance of removing any quantitative restrictions in front of Egyptian exports to the markets of the Eurasian Union countries, such as quantitative or seasonal quotas.

The embassy of Spain announced on Wednesday the country’s participation in the 52nd edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, which kicks off on June 30 at the International Exhibitions Center in New Cairo. The Ambassador of Spain in Egypt, Ramon Gil Casares, will attend the inauguration of the Book Fair. The Spanish language is increasingly present in the Egyptian public universities, as well as private. Its teaching is supported by the Instituto Cervantes of Cairo and Alexandria, which plays a fundamental role in the spreading of Spanish language in Egypt. The book fair is free to attend, and will run from June 30 to July 15.

Egyptian health authorities announced receiving on Thursday morning the first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. 210,000 doses touched down at Cairo International Airport, according to the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement and Medical Supplies. The authority said this batch came under a contract signed in May between the two countries. Egypt’s Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed 466 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 278,761. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 15,967 nationwide, after the ministry announced 32 deaths. The Board of Trustees of the American University in Cairo (AUC) has named Ahmad S. Dallal as AUC’s 13th president, effective October 15, 2021. Dallal currently serves as dean of Georgetown University in Qatar and previously served as dean of the American University of Beirut (AUB) from 2009 to 2015. CAIRO - 25 June 2021: A judge ordered on Thursday renewing the detention of a train driver and two minibus drivers who are involved in a railway crash in Helwan for 15 days pending investigation. The Helwan prosecution earlier ordered conducting a drug test for the two minibus drivers, who fled to Alexandria after the incident, according to an official statement. On Monday, a freight train collided with two minibuses that stopped too close to the rail tracks in a residential area. Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir in remarks to media said the train driver escaped from the scene and turned himself in to the police. He added that the driver received negative drug test results right after the incident.
