CAIRO - 28 June 2020: The Health Ministry said Sunday night that 389 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 280,394. Egypt received on June 24, a consignment of 210,000 doses of Sputnik V anti-COVID-19 vaccine within a deal to acquire 10 million doses. Until present, the country got 2.2 million doses of those in addition to two million Sinopharm doses within a deal with China comprising 20 million doses. Furthermore, Egypt will produce 40 million doses annually of Sinovac and Sputnik V vaccines. The second consists of five million doses.

Egypt’s Public Prosecution on Sunday announced that police forces have arrested two Egyptians and a French citizen over charges of smuggling antiquities that Cairo retrieved from France. Public Prosecutor Hamada al-Sawy asked to send the antiquities to a technical committee formed by the Ministry of Antiquities to examine them, and identify the Egyptian civilizations they are from. The Public Prosecution’s investigations began in 2019, after a French citizen informed the Egyptian embassy in Paris that a deceased Frenchman had acquired antiquities in his residence in Paris after entering them illegally. The public prosecution adopted international judicial cooperation with the French judicial authorities. Al-Sawy had returned Saturday evening from Paris with more than 100 Egyptian antiquities that had been smuggled to France.

CAIRO – 28 June 2021: The number of drug addicts around the world expected to increase in the coming years, and may exceed 300 million drug users in 2030 according to Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Waly. In statements to the Egyption privately-owned channel on TV, Sunday, Waly added that countries with high population growth are the countries that will be more likely to have an increase in drug use. She noted that the rates of drug abuse in European countries will decrease, in contrast to African countries and other poor spots around the world which will be witnessing an increase in the drug dealing and abuse. On June 25, Waly said that Around 275 million people used drugs worldwide last year, while over 36 million others suffered from drug use disorders. In a statement on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Waly said drugs destroy health of individuals, noting that half a million of people died of drugs in 2019.

CAIRO – 28 June 2021: Egypt’s Public Prosecutor Hamada al-Sawy and his accompanying delegation, returned Cairo, Sunday with the 114 antiquities that had been looted and smuggled to France, ordering a technical team of the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry to check them. In a statement, the Public Prosecution said its members supervised the completion of the procedures of shipping the looted artifacts. A French man and two Egyptians involved in the smuggling of the artifacts were arrested after cooperation with the French judicial authorities. On Wednesday, Egypt’s Public Prosecutor Hamada al-Sawy announced retrieving, 114 looted antiquities that were smuggled to France, as part of the joint investigations launched by Egypt’s Prosecution and the French judicial authorities. The joint investigations managed to stop all attempts for selling the Egyption smuggled antiquities.
