The Mansoura Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced two men to death who attempted to rape and ended up murdering one of the man’s wife. The incident dates back to June 2020, when Hussein, the husband of the victim Eman, allegedly contracted another man, Ahmed, to rape his wife so he could avoid paying settlements for divorce. The husband gave Ahmed the keys to his house and stayed out for some time to allow him to break in. The judge said that both men are partners in the attempted rape and murder of Eman, and sentenced them to the same punishment. He pointed out that his family refused his divorce to his wife, as the victim was from a good family, religious, and of high moral character.

The first locally-producted Egyptian satellite will be manufactured and launched within two years, Ayman Mahmoud, a board member of the Egyptian Space Agency, said, adding that the step “represents a great challenge.”Mahmoud told “Al-Mowagaha” (The Confrontation) program: “Egypt has huge industrial capabilities that enable it to create a 100 percent Egyptian satellite,” stressing that “Egypt has high-level scientists and engineers.”“We are trying to organize efforts so that we have the capabilities and expertise to develop space systems in Egypt,” he continued. In order to achieve rapid comprehensive development, the minister said that it was necessary to work on programs of the waste management system in parallel. Infrastructure was established in 2018 alongside preparation of the first waste management law that was issued in 2020, she explained.

Egypt’s Health Ministry on Tuesday confirmed 498 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 278,295. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 15,935 nationwide, after the ministry announced 37 deaths. And 799 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 206,852. A country-wide partial lockdown aimed at curbing cases that has been in place since May 6 ended on Tuesday. Egypt is currently using China’s Sinopharm vaccine and the UK’s AstraOxford vaccine, and it has plans to soon begin locally manufacturing China’s Sinovac vaccine and Russia’s Sputnik-V.

CAIRO – 22 June 2021: The Egyptian Ministry of Finance denied the state's intention to issue sovereign sukuk as a tool to mortgage state-owned assets in return for borrowing. It added that the sukuk also comes in line with Islamic Sharia principles, without mortgaging or selling any of the state-owned assets, according to the media center of the Council of Ministers. The ministry added that sovereign sukuk are issued on the basis of state-owned assets privately owned, by selling the right to use these assets without the right of neck, or by leasing them, provided that it is prohibited to seize or take executive measures on those assets on the basis of which the sukuk are issued, to nullify any action or conduct contrary to that, and to impose a criminal penalty on violators. It indicated that the fixed and movable assets owned by the state will be determined as "private property" on the basis of which the sukuk are issued, so that there will be a mechanism to assess the right to use those assets on the basis of which the sukuk are issued or in return for leasing them for this purpose. Its issuance, circulation and redemption are subject to the controls, rules and procedures that are compatible with the principles of Islamic Sharia.
