A controversial agreement signed last year between the city of San Diego and San Diego Gas & Electric survived a legal challenge after a San Diego Superior Court judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit that sought to declare the deal null and void. The lawsuit also charged the San Diego City Council erred when it removed an item from the council’s second reading — and approval — of the franchise agreement in June 2021. The agreement runs for 10 years and has an automatic renewal for another 10 years — what Mayor Todd Gloria called a “10-plus-10" agreement. However, if for any reason the city is unhappy with SDG&E, it has a window to void the 10-year renewal, provided two-thirds of the City Council votes against extending the deal. Another legal challenge to the franchise agreement is on the docket, also in Superior Court.

Steve Kell’sMarket MinuteOne of the things which Ontario grain farmers are going to remember about the 2022 harvest for many years is just how fast this year’s harvest went. Currently, the United States Department of Agriculture is forecasting an average 2022 corn yield of 172.3 bushels per acre. It’s a small reduction from 2021’s 177.6 bushel average yield, but still above 2020’s 171.4 bushel per acre average yield. One interesting thing about the USDA is that they will continue to adjust 2022’s crop yields and crop production estimates until their September 2023 report. In both the winter and early spring of 2021 and 2022, grain prices moved up sharply between January and April.

“The Overseas Highway is one of America’s best road trips,” proclaims Ashley Serrate, representative for the Florida Keys and Key West. It’s a great vibe.”Located closer to Cuba than Miami, Key West is by far the most popular travel destination in the Florida Keys. Key West is a family-oriented community where you can find plenty of free activities, parks, beaches and playgrounds to entertain the kids between excursions. Everything in and around Key West is conveniently accessible via public transportation, taxis, pedi-cabs, tour trains, trolleys, bicycles or even your own two feet. See for yourself why Key West is close to perfect, but far from normal.

Sir John A. Macdonald had entrusted talks with the HBC to two of his most valuable ministers, George-Étienne Cartier and William McDougall, to achieve the deal which saw Rupert’s Land’s 3.9 million sq. It was only $1.5 million in 1869 dollars. Cartier and McDougall, with an assist from the British government who pressured the HBC to make the deal, had delivered for Canada. To appreciate the importance and size of the purchase, consider that large parts of Quebec and Ontario, then Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Northwest Territories were eventually created from what had been Rupert’s Land. The stage was now set for Macdonald of Kingston and his government to unite this far-flung and new nation from Atlantic to Pacific with a band of steel, the CPR.

The Miami Marlins should be excited about the moves they can make this offseason. Not only are they capable of signing any free agent they want, but they also have a few trade chips worth moving. Here are two moves they need to make in the offseason to help them do that. Add A Star HitterThe Marlins last made the playoffs in 2020, during the 60-game shortened season. High commercial rents are forcing independent businesses off Toronto's Roncesvalles Avenue, a process that locals say will make the quirky commercial strip look just like any other street in the city. Large, well-financially backed companies will be able to afford these leases and slowly more corporate and less independent businesses will move in," he said. Gord Perks says commercial rent controls would help municipalities protect independent businesses in popular shopping areas. Gord Perks, who represents Ward 4, Parkdale-High Park, says he's concerned about the street losing its independent businesses and traditional character. "Over the last couple of decades we have seen commercial rents start to put that more and more at risk," he said.

Obama urges Georgia Democrats to push turnout for WarnockATLANTA (AP) — Former President Barack Obama and Sen. Raphael Warnock on Thursday urged Democratic voters to keep pushing an apparent head start in early voting in the Georgia Senate runoff against Republican Herschel Walker, ahead of Friday's last day of early in-person voting and Tuesday's election day. “I believe in my soul that Georgia knows that Georgia is better than Herschel Walker,” Warnock said. He argued that their advantage comes only because it was heavily Democratic metro-area counties that held weekend early voting, while more Republican areas waited until the statewide mandatory early voting window that began Monday. Republicans had sued, unsuccessfully, in state court trying to block Saturday early voting for the runoff. The senator’s campaign, Democratic Party committees and aligned political action committees have tailored their voter turnout efforts toward early voting.
