The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has just five inspectors to keep track of Ontario's 27,000 oil and gas wells, the province's auditor general has found. More than 15,300 of the wells were known to be abandoned, while the ministry couldn't say whether another 7,300 were abandoned or not, an AG report said. Some 1,625 abandoned wells in Ontario were never plugged at all, the AG points out. "The ministry acknowledges the concerns related to the ministry’s oil and gas well inspection program," the ministry said in a written response. The ministry could not provide the AG with a list of high-risk wells that have or have not been plugged, the AG said.

Experts in misinformation and science communication fear Twitter’s decision to no longer enforce its COVID-19 misleading-information policy will further silo users and create an environment rife with the content the policy aimed to curtail. The tool, brought on during the pandemic to help people find reliable information, has been quietly shelved. “The world has changed dramatically since this pandemic was first declared a public-health emergency,” reads a section on Twitter’s transparency website. According to Twitter, the policy is no longer in effect as of Nov. 23. “It sounds like hyperbole, but it’s not,” said Caulfield referring to the spread of health misinformation on these sites, like unfounded claims saying ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine are cures for COVID, or the idea COVID-19 vaccinations implant microchips into recipients.

First thing’s first, the Jays need to win with their current group. Contending clubs like the Jays need to be more concerned about building the best possible roster and quite often that involves giving up more than you’d like to fill an area of need. The bottom line is the Jays are going to get more value out of whoever they acquire through trade than they would from a third catcher. GM Ross Atkins should pick the catcher he likes best and only move him in the right deal, but one of the other two must be cashed in this off-season. — Andrew, TorontoI don’t think anyone within the front office is feeling the pressure quite yet.

As a transgender person, Zso embarked on the process of changing their name during the pandemic and found the process complicated. The Woodlawn Public Library in Dartmouth is holding a clinic Tuesday night and Zso said there will be more clinics at library branches in 2023. In fact, the process has changed and now, instead of going to Access Nova Scotia, Nova Scotians are encouraged to go to Vital Statistics. Some of the forms are available on the Nova Scotia website. And then you have the choice about what kind of gender marker you want to display on your birth certificate, whether it's male, female, X, or nothing.

Danielle Smith’s walk has not matched her talk as Alberta’s premier“Albertans have had just about enough of this!” Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told Jordan Peterson near the start of an hour-and-a-half-long interview posted online two weeks ago. Well, calling it an “interview” is generous: The good doctor fails to challenge Ms. Smith on any of her sometimes misleading characterizations of Alberta’s plight, and he frequently goes on extended monologues about his own usual stable of cultural issues. But between his tirades, Ms. Smith was able to squeeze in some red meat for her base, including laying out her criticism that Ontario and Quebec are happy to sap the wealth of oil-producing Alberta, yet stand in the way of the province’s attempts to produce those same resources. If we were to judge solely by her statements, Ms. Smith hasn’t exactly pivoted from her trademark strident rhetoric since becoming premier. On matters of actual policy, however, much of what she has done since then has been rather milquetoast – and at odds with the aggressiveness of her words.
