How could he back the mullahs’ team?”This is a hopeless dilemma for fans who love their country and their team. Poor fans, poor players, poor audience, poor country. I also find myself wondering if we make a mistake — full of good intentions and love of sports — by trying to separate the politics from the games. They argue and document how play and games may have been the origin of fundamental social forces like agriculture and politics. As for politics, especially the top-down, rulership type, it may’ve started in games that ended with a winner or king (like chess!

Four years after Meng Wanzhou’s arrest, U.S. drops last remaining indictmentWASHINGTON — The United States closed the book Friday on the legal saga of Meng Wanzhou, the Chinese tech executive whose arrest in Canada in 2018 triggered a global standoff with foreign-policy implications that reverberate to this day. A federal judge in New York formally dismissed the last remaining indictment against Huawei's chief financial officer after prosecutors agreed Meng had abided by the terms of her deferred prosecution agreement. Meng, the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, pleaded not guilty to all charges as part of the agreement. Their detention complicated Canada's efforts to enunciate a position on China in general and Huawei in particular as a potential national security threat. Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly finally unveiled Canada's Indo-Pacific strategy on Sunday, in the very city where Meng was first detained.

After 26 years of being a proud Dominion – like Canada – within the British Empire, Newfoundland’s government dissolved itself on this date in 1933. After almost 80 years of responsible government, the future Canadian province became a Crown colony once again. Newfoundland’s economy had been crushed by the Great Depression and the situation was so bleak that malnutrition had reared its ugly head. The Commission of Government came into being in early 1934 with its seven Commissions, all appointed by the British. The tide, however, would turn for Newfoundland during the years of the Second World War.

Last week, huge protests against the severe COVID-19 restrictions in China erupted in numerous cities, in the biggest show of opposition to the ruling Communist party in decades. The WHO has previously described China’s “zero-COVID” strategy as “not sustainable, ” saying that the super-infectious omicron variant made trying to stop every single case of COVID impossible. Ryan said using imported messenger RNA vaccines, like those made by BioNTech-Pfizer and Moderna, would be a “solid option” for China to boost its immunization coverage. China’s home-grown vaccines have proven to be less effective and scientists say any protection they provided is likely to have faded with the emergence of omicron. Numerous public health officials have warned that China’s zero-COVID strategy, which involves locking down entire communities if infections are found, serves little purpose given how easily the omicron variant spreads.

Through 24 games, no Dallas Stars has ever scored more goals or produced more points than Robertson this season. But, like so often this season, Robertson led the way for the Stars. It’s part of a kaleidoscope of goals by Robertson this season, who has scored in seemingly every way possible. He’s scored when he’s been pushed into the net.
