He remembers how his stories about family, pets and monotonous daily adventures captured the audience as McLean travelled from coast to coast for his recordings. The North Shore native said his Port Moody show comes three years to the day after he had to cancel due to the provincial state of emergency from the pandemic. Another musician friend, Craig Northey of the Odds, who grew up in Port Moody and whose father, John, was the mayor, recommended Lawrence swing by. Lawrence will show images of his late friend and pay tribute to his hardy wilderness zest for life; Bernard’s family has also been invited to attend the Port Moody show. Send this page to someone via emailPrime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday accused his Conservative rival Pierre Poilievre of enlisting U.S. billionaires to attack Canada’s public broadcaster, after Poilievre prodded Twitter owner Elon Musk to label the CBC “government-funded.”Poilievre said on Twitter last week that he had written to Musk to request that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation be labeled “accurately.” On Sunday, some CBC Twitter feeds started carrying the label “government-funded Media.”Poilievre, who took over the party last year and is campaigning to defund the CBC, celebrated the decision, saying on Twitter that “now people know that it is Trudeau propaganda, not news.”CBC replied that it is not government funded, but is “publicly funded through a parliamentary appropriation that is voted upon by all Members of Parliament,” and its journalism is independent. “You’re extremely overweight, you haven’t managed your congestive heart failure, you haven’t managed your diabetes and there’s no personal accountability,” Petrovic said, quoted by the CBC. I have never before thought of lifesaving surgery as burdensome government interference. If you’re fat, diabetic, or your heart is failing, you still have a chance to win her respect. It’s worrying when ideologues think the starting point of medical care is blame. The hallmark of right-wing doctrinaires is their dislike of “government interference.” In Texas, 1.4 million people won’t get expanded Medicaid because Gov.

CBC radio is commercial-free for reasons that Poilievre and much of his following understand but don't like because it removes the ability of corporate advertisers and advertising dollars to control what is broadcast. If Poilievre is so cost-conscious, why haven't the Conservatives proposed cutting the several billion that is subsidizing the enormous profits of the oil and gas industry? If Poilievre wants to reduce the crime rate, why not submit a bill to study and implement universal basic income, or reform our electoral system to a proportional representation model as designed by a citizens’ assembly? The questions are numerous, however, Pierre Poilievre refuses requests for interviews from most mainstream media. Unfortunately, Pierre is a great complainer, but when it comes to real solutions, well, he just doesn't seem to have any.

© Provided by National Post PM Justin Trudeau also criticized Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for “pretending” he can go after English-language CBC but not French-language Radio-Canada. OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attacked Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre Monday for urging Twitter to label CBC as “government-funded media,” the morning after the social media platform added the tag to CBC’s account. “When they’re trying to attack a foundational Canadian institution, the fact that he has to run to American billionaires for support to attack Canadians says a lot about Mr. Poilievre and his values,” Trudeau said at a press conference. Last week, Poilievre wrote to Twitter and owner Elon Musk to ask the platform to “accurately” label CBC, after Twitter applied the tag to British public broadcaster BBC News and NPR in the U.S. The move led NPR to leave the platform while Twitter changed BBC’s tag to “publicly-funded” after the broadcaster objected.

The Stars’ best regular-season record in seven years, Jason Robertson breaking the team scoring record, Miro Heiskanen breaking the club’s defenseman scoring record, goaltender Jake Oettinger going 37-11-11, the team finishing with the best goals differential in the Western Conference. ”We’ve given ourselves a chance to win,’’ coach Pete DeBoer said after the Stars closed the regular season with six straight victories. That won’t be a factor in the series, although maybe Mats Zuccarello, who had a nice Stars playoff moment or two in 2019, will be. But this season Dallas saw Heiskanen develop even further while breaking Sergei Zubov’s points record for a D-man. It’s the best time of the year.’’Twitter: @TimCowlishawFind more Stars coverage from The Dallas Morning News here.

Entrepreneurs start their adventure with a commitment to “change the world” or at a minimum to make it better. The key question he asks is why is it so hard to tell the truth. I hope the next generation of our leaders holds more dearly the commitment to truth. And don’t tell me when you are available for a meeting that I have not even agreed to. And tell the truth.

Simply put, we want candidates who have the skills, experience and aptitude to do the work. Smart employers are getting rid of the traditional “must haves” of hiring, like must have a college degree. The self-discipline and self-motivational skills they learned in scouting will mean more to them than any college degree or credential. Now is the time to play up your talents, your positive attitude, your energy and your desire to earn new skills. These days, more and more employers are hiring for attitude and skills much more than degrees and experience.

One of CBC's Twitter accounts now has a label which describes the broadcaster as "Government-funded Media." CBC media relations director Leon Mar says Twitter's decision defies its own policy, which says government-funded media "may have varying degrees of government involvement over editorial content." The Canadian Press emailed Twitter asking for an explanation of the added tag, and the company responded with a poop emoji. This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 16, 2023. Twitter has labelled the CBC’s Twitter account as “government-funded media.”The new label appeared Sunday night, just days after Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre asked the company to add it to the national broadcaster’s account. As of Sunday evening, the government-funded label only appeared on the @CBC account and not on the @CBCNews or @CBCAlerts accounts. It also seems the label has not spread to the CBC Twitter accounts that cover local media markets. U.S. outlet National Public Radio (NPR) recently left Twitter after its account had the label “state-affiliated media” added. We produce trustworthy content that features unbiased reporting.”Unlike NPR and PBS, the label attached to BBC’s Twitter account reads “publicly-funded media”.

The Canadian Press emailed Twitter asking for an explanation of the added tag, and the company responded with a poop emoji. The corporation has drawn a distinction between “government” and “public” funding because of the fact that the money it receives is granted through a vote made in Parliament. In 2021-22, the CBC received more than $1.2 billion in government funding, a decrease from about $1.4 billion in 2020-21. Poilievre said in a sit-down interview last July with right-wing outlet True North that the only justification for having a public broadcaster is to provide content the private market does not. CBC has said that targeting public money at only one language group would require the Broadcasting Act to be rewritten.

Keep your scores in checkYou’ll need some savings to get launched, and a good credit score. And, the only way they’ll agree to lease to you is if you have a reasonably good credit score (typically over 650). You’ll want to be frugal because saving money on essentials gives you more money for the fun stuff.

Beyond the infamous cases, Canada has a major problem with wrongful convictions, argues Kent Roach. The Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions shows that 15 of the 83 entered a guilty plea. The case recognized that the overrepresentation of Indigenous people — 12 per cent at the time — was a “crisis” that required judges to sentence Indigenous people in a different way. In hindsight, I think the Supreme Court would have shut down any attempt to reopen the manslaughter guilty plea. I had success in arguing the law in her case, but wrongful convictions are almost never about the law.
