The show hosted the largest collections of bags and luggage, footwear and sports fashion in Hong Kong as well as Asia’s largest scarf pavilion. Job arrangement urged for Vietnamese workers in Taiwan factory fireThe Department of Overseas Labour Management under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has directed the arrangement of jobs for over 160 Vietnamese workers who lost their jobs due to a blaze that broke out in a factory’s dormitory in Taoyuan city, Taiwan (China) on April 28. It asked the labour management department in Taipei to continuously follow the situation and report the latest developments relating to Vietnamese workers. More than 1,000 Vietnamese are working for the company, including over 160 working at the factory in Pingzhen district where the fire broke out. The office also asked the labour brokers, who introduced the Vietnamese workers to work in Taiwan, to work with the factory to offer them temporary accommodation. The office was also tasked to cooperate with relevant agencies and companies to help the Vietnamese workers return to normal life soon.-VNA

Stock market continues to be busy with more IPOsVietNamNet Bridge - January 2018 witnessed many IPOs of large corporations, including Binh Son Petrochemistry & Refinery JSC (BSR, UpCom), PVOil (OIL, UpCom), PVPower (POW, UpCom) and the Vietnam Rubber Group (GVR, UpCom). The total amount of money collected from the four IPOs was VND17.9 trillion, or $785 million. If counting some smaller IPOs, including Vinafood II ($51 million), Hapro ($39 million) and GENCO 3 ($8 million), the total amount is roughly $1 billion. While BSR, PVOil and PVPower successfully concluded their IPOs, others had unsatisfactory IPOs. Rong Viet Securities, in its report, said that the stock market, as the economy’s barometer, will be the first channel to reflect positive movements.

Vietnam welcomes over 5.5 million foreign tourists in first four monthsThe number of foreign visitors arriving in Vietnam in April was estimated at 1.3 million, raising the total figure for the first four months of 2018 to 5.5 million, up 29.5% over the same period last year. Of the total visitors in the first four months, 4.1 million came from Asia, with Chinese tourists topping the list at 1.7 million, followed by 1.1 million from the Republic of Korea. Visitors from Europe were estimated at more than 843,000, of which Russian tourists accounted for the largest share at an estimated 262,000. The numbers of tourists coming from the Americas and Oceania were 357,000 and 163,000 respectively. During the period, nearly 15,000 Africans tourists also visited Vietnam, an annual increase of 22.5%.

Hue Festival 2018 entertains visitors with myriad programmesA myriad of art performances were staged by foreign and local artists in the ongoing Hue Festival, the 10th of its kind, in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. Vietnam’s CPI up slightly in AprilVietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in April went up 0.08 percent monthly and 2.75 percent annually, pushing up the four-month figure by 2.8 percent year-on-year, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO) on April 29. Petrol prices were also adjusted up, thus pushing CPI by 0.11 percent, she said, adding that flight and railway ticket prices moved up 0.76 percent and 2.55 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, prices of housing materials, electricity and water supply hiked a respective of 0.5 percent, 0.14 percent and 0.42 percent. Prices of poultry and aquatic products curbed CPI growth due to abundant supply. Gold prices moved up 0.47 percent month-on-month while USD prices were kept stable at around 22,790 VND.
