Interest rates of auctioned Government bonds continue to rise
A transaction office of BaoViet Bank (Photo: VNA)– The Hanoi Stock Exchange HNX ) held 30 auctions of Government bonds (G-bonds) in October, with 55.66% of the total G-bonds on offer, worth 31.45 trillion VND (1.26 billion USD) sold.With the latest G-bonds auctions, the amount of capital raised via this channel in the January-October period by the State Treasury came to 139.432 trillion VND, while the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) mobilised 12.3 trillion VND.Compared to the end of September, annual interest rates for 10-year and 15-year bonds issued by the State Treasury increased to 4% and 4.1%.Three-year and five-year bonds issued by the VBSP have annual interest rates of 4.7 and 4.8%, respectively.On the secondary market, trading value of G-bonds during the month dropped by 40.4%, with an average trading value of 3.84 trillion VND per session, down 11.1 percent on-month.The total volume traded via repos decreased by 57.68% while Outright transaction value reduced by 16.49%./.

Vietnam attends Indo Defence 2022 Expo & Forum
The event, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, gathered representatives of 905 companies from 60 countries worldwide. Themed “Peace, prosperity, strong defense”, the expo is being held across three different venues in Jakarta. A total of 21 ministerial-level officials, armed forces commanders, and chiefs of staff from various countries attend the event. The event will feature the sixth Indo Marine Expo & Forum and the seventh Indo Aerospace Expo & Forum, co-hosted by the Indonesian Defence Ministry and PT Napindo Media Ashatama company. It is expected to draw about 30,000 visitors and 900 customers./.

Vietnamese scientist discovers anti-cancer agents from rice husks

This is the first study clarifying the cytotoxic mechanism of Momilactones A (MA) and Momilactones B (MB) on acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) HL-60 and multiple myeloma (MM) U266 cell lines. This finding provides novel insights into the anticancer property of Momilactones, which can be a premise for future studies and development of Momilactone-based anti-cancer medicines. In a study in 2019, the group discovered and successfully extracted 600 mg of MA and MB from 30kg of rice husks. The scientist said many pharmaceutical companies inside and outside Japan are working with his team to extract MA and MB for developing medicines to boost the immune system, anti-cancer medicines, those for treating diabetes, and cosmetics./.

Indonesia calls on religious leaders to promote world peace

Fishing vessels (Photo: VNA)An overview of the meeting (Photo: VNA)– The planning of fishing ports will be a fulcrum for the sustainable development of the fisheries sector, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien has said.Addressing a recent meeting on the perfection of ideas and recommendations for the planning of the fishing port and storm shelter system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Tien stressed that the planning of fishing harbours should be separated from that of storm shelter s.The port planning must be closely associated with fleet management, he said, adding that this is an important task to ensure the traceability of exploited aquatic products.It is necessary to calculate the specific numbers of vessels of the northern, central and southern regions, manage of port infrastructure, and mobilise social resources to invest in the system.As the fisheries sector plays an important role in ensuring fishermen’s livelihoods as well as defence security, the planning work must meet this requirement, the deputy minister stressed.Supporting services, processing technology and measures to reduce logistic costs should be taken into account as well.During the planning process, it is also important to turn the five major fishing grounds of Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang into growth poles, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, Tien emphasised.In the draft planning, Vietnam will have 172 fishing harbours, an increase from the 125 at present, while the number of fishing vessels will decrease to 83,600 by 2030./.
