Vietnam, Switzerland look to expand trade, investment cooperation
Delegates at the seminar (Photo: VNA)- As many as 150 economic expert s, and representatives from ministries, sectors, and localities, financial investment funds and businesses of Switzerland and Vietnam gathered together at a seminar on Vietnam - Switzerland cooperation in trade, investment and technology in Zurich on September 8.The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of Vietnam in Switzerland, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce, Bellecapital financial investment fund, Keep It Beautiful Vietnam (KIBV) and the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Switzerland (AVIES).In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Phung The Long emphasised that after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, in the context of rapid and profound changes in the international arena with intertwined challenges and opportunities, senior leaders of both nations share the wish to soon elevate the bilateral cooperative relationship to a new height basing on the mutual trust and sharing of common values of peace, cooperation and development.For his part, Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass highlighted the strong development of bilateral relations across fields over the past 52 years, saying that regular high-level exchange between the two countries have created a premise for trade and investment relations to be continuously strengthened.During the seminar, delegates discussed measures to further promote bilateral cooperation and develop sustainable startup ecosystems in Vietnam, and investment opportunities in Vietnam.They listened to introduction of Vietnam's policies and priorities to promote investment cooperation and economic linkages, as well as opportunities and challenges in economic cooperation between the two countries.Participants also proposed measures to promote bilateral trade and initiatives to create favourable conditions for businesses of the two countries and address potential barriers./.

Vietnam, Mozambique see great potential for cooperation: Ambassador
– Vietnam and Mozambique can continue to explore and expand their relations in both traditional and new areas of Vietnam's strengths and Mozambique's interest, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Pham Hoang Kim told the media ahead of a coming visit to the country by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.Highlighting the significance of the visit, set to take place next week, the ambassador said that it takes place in the context of Mozambique prioritizing development towards modernising the industry, attracting foreign investment capital and improving social life to create momentum for the country’s general election in 2024.Moreover, the country is taking on the role of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2023 - 2024 term, affirming it as a responsible member to regional and international issues.“This is a decisive moment for Vietnam and Mozambique, on the basis of good political relations, to continue to explore and expand relations from traditional areas of cooperation such as agriculture, education, healthcare to new areas like digital transformation, minerals, civil industry, agricultural processing, construction, energy, and infrastructure,” he said.During the visit, Xuan will meet leaders of Mozambique and local business representatives, which offer opportunities for the two sides to review the implementation of cooperative activities and propose measures to strengthen their multifaceted collaboration, Kim said, noting the Vice President’s visit will continue to affirm the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mozambique.With the important role and increasing position of Mozambique in southern Africa and Vietnam in Southeast Asia, the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the coming time is huge, especially in economy and trade, according to Kim.Mozambique has strengths in natural resources, fisheries and competitive labour while Vietnam boasts advantages in agriculture, handicrafts, fisheries, and a hard-working workforce.The complementary economies, the regular exchange of high-level delegations, and enhanced cooperation between localities and businesses are favourable factors for Vietnam - Mozambique relations to further develop, the diplomat said.Vietnam and Mozambique established diplomatic relations on June 25, 1975. Vietnam opened its Embassy in Mozambique in 1976, showing its respect for and desire to develop the traditional friendship with Mozambique in particular and African countries in general.Economic, trade and investment cooperation is the highlight of the two countries' relationship. Their trade turnover in 2022 reached over 177 million USD, an increase of 16% compared to 2022./.

Vietnam, US see thriving bilateral relations: former US Secretary of Defence

He told Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Washington DC ahead of the Vietnam visit by President Joe Biden on September 10-11 that the two countries’ diplomatic relations have recorded strong developments, alongside with fruitful cooperation in other important areas such as trade and security. Regarding President Biden's visit, Hagel assessed that it is important for strengthening and promoting bilateral ties. The two countries are looking for areas of cooperation for a better world for all, he said, adding the US and Vietnam normalised diplomatic relations and then built a new chapter in bilateral relations./.

Young parliamentarians help realise sustainable development goals

Foreign investment powers national economy into globalisation: workshop
HÀ NỘI — Foreign investment has proven itself as a dynamic economic sector, with significant contributions to the growth of the national economy as well as its integration into the world, heard a recent workshop in Hà Nội. Digital transformation will drive tourism development: Deputy PM
HCM CITY — Digital transformation will be the driving force in achieving a breakthrough in tourism and making that industry green, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà has said. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng said the tourism industry was implementing Government Resolution No 82/NQ-CP to accelerate its recovery. Thailand speeds up digitalisation to combat corruption

Chairing the opening of an Anti-Corruption Day event hosted by the AntiCorruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT), Srettha emphasised that battling graft is one of the government's top priorities. According to Srettha, Thailand was ranked 4th among Asean countries behind Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam on the Corruption Perceptions Index last year. He said technology can boost transparency, particularly e-payments which will be used in the state sector in lieu of cash for easy traceability.
