Since then Ecker has been on the Rangers coaching staff, even being held over after Chris Woodward was fired and eventually replaced with Bruce Bochy. Lehmann has been the Dodgers bench coach for the past two seasons, after four years as their “game planning and communications coach” before that. That title sounds like someone starting to to sketch out a list of what a manager does, so surely it carried some relevant experience as well. Even if the Dodgers advance to the World Series, the break after the NLCS should give the White Sox an opening to make more contact than they’ve been able to so far.

Hamas Chief Sinwar Killed in Gaza Operations, Israel Says
Israel on Thursday said it had killed Hamas’s leader, Yahya Sinwar, in Gaza. Sinwar, who has been Hamas’s top leader in Gaza for years, took control of the group’s political bureau in August after Israel killed the previous leader, Ismail Haniyeh, the preceding month. The Israeli military said there was no presence of hostages in the area of operations in Gaza. Earlier this month, the Israeli military also said it killed Rawhi Mushtaha, another senior Hamas political official and one of a few people considered closest to Sinwar. Sinwar could be succeeded by his deputy in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, who has represented Hamas in cease-fire negotiations with Israel, or by former Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal.
