The Hegseth pick, announced late Tuesday, immediately drew more scrutiny than some more conventional choices Trump announced for other Cabinet-level positions. “Pete is tough, smart and a true believer in America First,” Trump said in a statement from his transition team. President Trump and Secretary Hegseth will make our military great again while continuing to put America First,” the foundation said in a statement. Gabbard, a former Democratic member of Congress from Hawaii who sought the party’s presidential nomination in 2020, campaigned for Trump this year.

Red Lobster menu brings back beloved item and adds 8 new dishes
Hush puppies, once a staple on Red Lobster’s menu, are coming back. “There was a social media riot over us taking off the hush puppies a few years ago,” CEO Damola Adamolekun told NBC News. “I expect a stampede into our restaurants because we’re bringing back the hush puppies,” he jokingly added. Among the new items are bacon-wrapped scallops, lobster bisque, lobster pappardelle and a Parmesan-crusted chicken dish. Red Lobster is also “crafting a new tartar sauce that brings back all the flavors” from its original recipe, according to its Facebook account.

Some Viewers Abandon Television Networks On Election Day
The audience on Election Night 2024 from 18 cable and broadcast networks averaged 42.3 million viewers in prime time, according to Nielsen. On Election Night, MSNBC averaged more viewers than CNN, which had averaged 5.1 million primetime viewers. NBC averaged 5.5 million viewers, CBS delivered an averaged audience of 3.6 million viewers, followed by Fox Broadcasting at 2.0 million. Conversely, the Thursday following Election Day, Fox News averaged 2.6 million for the total day, a year-over-year increase of +60%. Similarweb reports, the day after Election Day, Elon Musk’s X generated 46.5 million visits, the highest mark of any day in the past year.

'Orbital,' which looks down on Earth in awe, wins the 2024 Booker Prize
A slim science fiction novel that looks at our "precious and precarious" world through the eyes of six astronauts on the International Space Station has won the 2024 Booker Prize. "Compact yet beautifully expansive, Orbital invites us to observe the Earth's splendour, whilst reflecting on the individual and collective value of every human life," the Booker Prize judges wrote. The prize website notes it has sold more copies than the last three Booker Prize winners combined before their wins. Harvey, who was one of five women among the six authors on the Booker Prize short list, is the first woman to win the award since 2019. Watching footage of Earth orbits from the ISS helped inspire the book, Harvey told NPR, including the 16 sunsets and sunrises the astronauts in her book experience over the day she writes about.
