Police are searching for answers after the second pair of lynx were captured near the Dell of Killiehuntly on Friday, a day after the first incident nearby. Staff from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) were able to bait the duo into humane traps and the animals are in good health. The latest pair were taken to the Highland Wildlife Park before going to Edinburgh Zoo for a period in quarantine. Keep your eyes peeled - the big cat went walkabout sometime during the last five days - have you seen it? That’s really sad and that’s a real, real risk.”He stressed it could also simply be the abandonment of animals which someone no longer wished to look after.

U.S. Job Growth Ends the Year Strong
On Friday, the 10-year yield hit its highest level since late 2023, the last time investors fretted about government spending getting out of control. This week, the 30-year mortgage rate, which typically tracks the 10-year Treasury yield, reached its highest level since early July. In Germany, a benchmark for Europe’s debt markets, the yield on 10-year government notes, or bunds, rose 0.17 percentage points. But these longer-dated market rates are also affected by investors’ expectations about where the economy is headed, not just where it is now. “It’s a global story,” said Ian Lyngen, an interest rate strategist at BMO Capital Markets.

“The fiscal rules laid out in the Budget are non-negotiable. Following the Brompton visit, Ms Reeves joined in on a UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue meeting in Beijing with her Chinese counterpart, Vice Premier He Lifeng. The Treasury has said that making Britain better will be “at the forefront of the Chancellor’s mind” throughout the visit. The yield on 30-year gilts briefly touched 5.43%, just below the peak of Thursday’s sell-off, which was the highest point since 1998. The UK Government has said its “reset” of relations with Beijing comes with the “firm recognition” that the two countries “will not, and do not, always agree”.

Migrant dies trying to cross Channel to reach UK
More than 30 people were rescued after a boat got into difficulty in the Channel overnight on Friday, the French Coastguard said. French media reported that the migrant who died was Syrian and was crushed by other migrants while on a leaky dinghy. A helicopter and boats were deployed to rescue the 35 migrants, including about 15 who were in the water. A UK Government spokesman said: “We can confirm there has been a tragic incident involving a small boat on the French coast which has resulted in the loss of one life. “This latest tragedy underlines the terrible dangers of small boat crossings, and we continue to do everything we can to prevent them.

Rape case councils brand the term 'Asian gang' racist - as it's revealed Pakistanis are four times more likely to be child groomers
Council areas where British-Pakistani men raped young white girls have endorsed an Islamophobia definition which labels the phrase 'Asian grooming gangs' racist. This report says that using the term 'Asian grooming gangs' is a repetition of 'age-old stereotypes and tropes about Islam' of 'sexual profligacy and paedophilia, or Islam and violence'. The figures were revealed by the team running the first national police project to track and analyse 'group-based' child sexual abuse cases which includes the ethnic backgrounds of offenders. As previously reported, child groomers will get tougher prison sentences as part of a crackdown on the 'most vile and horrific of crimes', Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced this week. Gas supply worry and player's 'dementia shock'
Warnings about the UK's gas supply make the lead for several of Saturday's front pages. The Daily Telegraph reports that British Gas owner Centrica says gas reserves are "concerningly" only half-full - 26% lower than this time last year. But National Gas, which owns the gas network, said the UK gets its gas from "a diverse range of sources" and that storage "remains healthy". The Times ranked Worcester 60th out of 284 narrowly beating Malvern Hills for the top spot in the county after using data such as crime rates, Ofsted reports and GP satisfaction.
