Oil forecasts rise as Mideast war ragesAnalysts are lifting their oil price estimates for this year and 2027 amid transport disruption in the Middle East, even though the potential release of reserves by the G7 and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) could help temporarily alleviate supply pressures. "We estimate about 10% of global oil supply is currently impacted by the conflict. The Strait of Hormuz typically records shipping of 18-20 million barrels per day (MBD) of crude oil. Another 2 MBD is Iran's exports, which will be crucial for the regime to fund its war. Souring public opinion and rising oil prices could force the Republicans, if not US President Donald Trump necessarily, to find a quick resolution to the conflict, he said.

Strait attack unacceptableThe adverse impact of the war between Iran, the United States and Israel has spilt over to other nations beyond the Middle East, as Tehran ramps up its attacks on cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Shortly after, Iran's Revolutionary Guards officially took responsibility for the attack, stating the ships "ignored warnings" and tried to move through the Strait of Hormuz "illegally". Meanwhile, the Thai government must find out why the Mayuree Naree was in the Strait of Hormuz, despite plenty of early warnings. What happened to the Mayuree Naree was unacceptable. The damage is not just physical and economic -- the attack also harmed the good ties between the two nations' peoples.

Bangkok police have stepped up security ahead of International Quds Day today, monitoring potential protests and sensitive sites amid concerns that tensions linked to conflict in the Middle East could spark unrest. However, authorities are exercising extra caution this year due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, including ongoing hostilities involving Israel, the United States and Iran. Officers in uniform will therefore be deployed to the demonstration site and nearby areas to ensure security, while police continue to assess the situation. Initial risk assessments indicate that the overall situation remains normal, Pol Lt Gen Sayam said, but authorities will maintain heightened vigilance. So far this year, about 84,000 Israelis have entered the country, and over 80,000 have already left, indicating normal travel patterns.

Pithak Ratchakitprakarn, president and chief executive of PTG, confirmed the company holds refined oil sourced from six refineries. PTG acknowledged last week the cost of acquiring additional reserves poses challenges for oil retailers already grappling with fierce competition and thin profit margins. Technological progress, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, is breaking down the old economic model that tied individual effort to secure, long-term work. Meanwhile, traditional full-time employment is giving way to precarious, mobile phone app-based work where benefits, career progression and long-term stability do not exist. And as machines displace both manual and cognitive labour, what kinds of roles, if any, can be considered future proof? FreelancingWith stable employment increasingly out of reach, millions are turning to freelancing and self-employment, more often as a last resort than a chosen path. Technology may not replace every job at once, but the economic logic is already rewriting the rules of employment.

(Photo: AFP)MOSCOW - A Russian court on Thursday sentenced 15 men — including four gunmen — to life in prison over the Crocus concert hall attack which left 150 people dead, the deadliest onslaught in Russia in more than two decades. The gunmen entered the concert hall shortly before a concert by the Soviet-era rock band Picnic. “For us all it’s like yesterday,” Ivan Pomorin, who was filming the Crocus Hall concert at the time, told AFP in the court. Hours after the attack, Russia brought them to court with signs of torture — including one barely conscious in a wheelchair.
