Trump threatens to destroy Iran's largest gas fieldUS President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran's vast South Pars gas fieldDOHA - US President Donald Trump threatened to "massively blow up" a vast Iranian gas field unless Tehran stops striking Qatari energy facilities, which sustained extensive damage Thursday. Tehran has carried out a series of attacks on Gulf energy sites, including on Qatar's huge Ras Laffan LNG facility, in retaliation for an Israeli strike on Iran's South Pars gas field -- part of the world's largest natural gas reservoir. Trump called in a social media post for strikes on both Iranian and Qatari energy sites to halt. Washington "knew nothing" of Israel's earlier attack on Iran's South Pars gas field, he said, vowing that "NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL" on the site if Tehran stops attacking Qatar. But if Iran did not comply, the United States would "massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field", Trump warned.

Trump's Iran quagmire could sink AmericaUnder President Donald Trump, US foreign policy has reached a new low. Even worse for a country's soft power is an ill-planned campaign that shows utter disregard for the lives of those affected. It should have been obvious that the Iranian regime would not collapse immediately, even if its top leadership was decapitated. As a result, the Iranian regime may have come to believe that it holds the stronger hand. It remains to be seen how much more damage US democracy and soft power will suffer because of this ill-conceived foreign adventure.

Myanmar's senior soldier prepares to shed uniformMyanmar military officers and members of parliament leave after a session of the upper house of parliament in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. This will formally end the direct military rule that followed the army chief, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing's seizure of power in February 2021. There is little doubt that the army commander-in-chief, Min Aung Hlaing will be anointed as president, with few -- if any --dissenting voices. It was fraught and experimental, but did mark a new era in Myanmar's political and economic development that was abruptly interrupted five years ago when Min Aung Hlaing seized power. "We will never negotiate with Min Aung Hlaing -- he has too much blood on his hands," Dr Sasa said.

Platypus even weirder than thought, scientists discoverWeird guys: The platypus has found yet another way to stand out in the animal kingdom. Melanin is contained in tiny, specialised structures inside cells called melanosomes, the shape of which is linked to their colour. Platypus melanosomes were mostly spherical — which should give it reddish-orange fur. “To the best of our knowledge, this is the only example of hollow melanosomes in mammals,” Dobson said. The ancestors of the platypus and echidna are thought to have been aquatic burrowing animals, so their hollow melanosomes could have helped them adapt to life in the water, giving them warmer insulation.
