They no longer have to travel to submit tax filings in person at Revenue Department branches. Recently the department implemented the e-withholding tax system to make filing tax documents more convenient. Taxpayers usually have to submit tax filings along with prepared documents as evidence for an intermediary, such as financial institutions, to conduct the withholding tax process. Once the bank receives the payment, it will issue an electronic invoice for both the payer and payee, with the withholding tax applied to the payee. The withholding tax amount will then be delivered to the Revenue Department within four working days after the bank receives the money.

The Mahakan Fort mistakeAfter booting the old Mahakan Fort community out of their homes in 2018, and turning the area into a park intended for tourists, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) recently, for the first time, tacitly admitted to its mistake. The attempts to beautify the fort, re-painting it in Clorox-bleach white, and decorating it with neon colours, of course received fierce criticism. The miniature park idea is ironic and questionable. This public park is another example of the city's dysfunctional top-down administration style. If the BMA cannot embrace public participation in its Mahakan redevelopment plan, it should leave the area as it is.

Kids expose the cracks behind the smilesAnti-government protesters occupy Ratchaprasong intersection last Sunday after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha refused to immediately resign. People have been fed lies, myths and false beliefs, designed to keep the advantaged class in a position of power forever. As more young people start to question the logic of old beliefs and myths, adults of that older generation are finding it hard to sit still. These beliefs, these myths, are what have kept the society intact and the people united, they say. Only the confirmation of old beliefs, myths and new lies is allowed.

Al-Khelaifi acquitted, Valcke given suspended sentence in TV rights trialParis Saint-Germain chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi was cleared of corruption by the Swiss Federal Criminal CourtBELLINZONA (SWITZERLAND) - Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was on Friday acquitted by a Swiss court of corruption over the allocation of World Cup TV rights, while former FIFA number two Jerome Valcke was handed a suspended 120-day sentence for a secondary charge. Al-Khelaifi, the chairman of beIN Media, was cleared of inciting aggravated criminal mismanagement, with Valcke found guilty of a separate charge of forging documents related to the attribution of Italian and Greek World Cup TV rights. Prosecutors had called for a jail term of three years for Valcke and a 28-month sentence for Al-Khelaifi following 10 days of hearings at the Swiss Federal Criminal Court of Bellinzona in September. Swiss prosecutors dropped a charge of corruption before the case reached trial because of an out-of-court settlement in January between Al-Khelaifi and FIFA, which then withdrew its complaint against him. He was cleared of the most serious charges of accepting bribes and aggravated criminal mismanagement but was handed a suspended prison sentence for forgery.

Turbulence here to stayThe decision of the Election Commission (EC) to pursue criminal charges against Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and the 16 former executives of the now-defunct Future Forward Party (FFP) over the 191-million-baht loan that led to the party's dissolution deserves public outrage. Mr Thanathorn and his wife separately made 10 million baht donations which the court also ruled against. If guilty in the criminal case, Mr Thanathorn, who formed the Progressive Movement group, could be jailed for up to 5 years and fined up to 100,000 baht. The controversial EC decision came at the same time as the charter court's verdict to disqualify Move Forward MP Tanwarin Sukkhapisit for breaking the law relating to shareholdings in media firms. As long as the state cannot ensure fairness to all, political turbulence in Thailand is here to stay, and the road to reconciliation will be rough.

Demonstrators show the three-fingered salute during a protest outside the German embassy on Monday. (Reuters photo)BERLIN/BANGKOK: The German government has cleared Thailand's King of breaching its ban on conducting politics while staying there, according to a parliamentary source. Thai protesters asked Germany on Monday to look into whether His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 68, had conducted state business, such as the signing of royal commands and the annual expenditure act, while staying on German soil. "The German government has taken the view that it is not yet of the opinion the Thai king has continuously conducted business," the source said. Thailand's political crisis has made the King's presence a challenge for Germany but revoking the visa of a visiting head of state could cause a major diplomatic incident, the source said.

Lower-league football clubs 'face extinction' without rescue packageThe Field Mill stadium, home to Mansfield TownMANSFIELD (UNITED KINGDOM) - Football clubs outside the Premier League that are the beating heart of the English game will vanish unless a financial rescue package is agreed imminently. Away from the TV-fuelled wealth of the Premier League, clubs are on their knees, deprived for months of their main source of income, with spectators barred due to tough Covid-19 rules. "We're hopeful, though, the Premier League will agree something with the EFL (English Football League, which covers 72 clubs) in the not-too-distant future and I am sure the government will be involved. "It's coming to the point where if there's no rescue package, clubs are going to start going under, and that's the reality of it." "It (the football club) is a huge part of people's lives," he said.
