Lucknow, April 15: The woman Shia qazi of Kanpur city today urged the All India Muslim Personal Law Board to take a stand against the triple talaq, saying the practice was neither good nor a necessary part of Islam. The central government, a respondent in the case, has opposed the triple talaq on the ground of gender equality. Maulana Kalbe Sadiq has sought 18 months to do away with the triple talaq. "Obviously, the board should take a decision (against the triple talaq) at its ongoing meeting to avoid any future embarrassment." A board member told this newspaper on the condition of anonymity that the triple talaq was the key issue on the meeting's agenda.
