KUALA LUMPUR: Banning women who wear headscarves from working in the frontline shows failure on the part of the employers to respect the freedom of religion practice, Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) said. “Based on a statement issued by the Malaysia Association of Hotels (MAH) recently, in connection with the ban on the use of headscarves, it clearly denies one’s right to freedom of religious practice. “Therefore, we urge the relevant authorities such as the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, Tourism Ministry and Human Resources Ministry to issue an official statement on the matter. “This is to enlighten the public on the issue as it touches religious sensitivities and human rights,” she said in a statement. Nor Azura said such ban should not have taken place, not only in the tourism industry but other industries as well.
