Selangor police cracking down on begging syndicates - Nation


SHAH ALAM: Selangor police are cracking down on begging syndicates, and have arrested 52 people and rescued 56 victims, including children, since July this year. "These syndicates use the guise of religion or welfare to pull at the heart strings of the public but this will not be tolerated anymore. He said police had been monitoring the syndicates that used children as young as eight-years-old, the elderly, and the disabled to beg for them. He said police have also charged 14 of them in court under various offences including the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Immigration Act. Comm Mazlan urged the public to be wary of beggars and to contact the police immediately to report any suspicious activities.
