Waimate councillor buys own safety signage for floodingJOHN BISSET/FAIRFAX NZHealth and safety has been taken too far in New Zealand, which could follow the United States "litigious" footsteps, a Waimate District councillor says. The Pareora/Otaio/Makikihi ward councillor wanted safety signage available to keep drivers safe while driving through his ward. O'Connor has bought his own safety cones and signs after becoming frustrated with the Waimate District Council's reluctance to lend him safety equipment for severe weather. O'Connor said he would be working with the council's civil defence personnel to let them know when and where the safety equipment would be used. It would not have been a problem if it was not for new health and safety regulations, O'Connor said.
