One private clinic that dispenses vaccines reports an almost 100 percent drop in vaccine sales from the beginning of the year compared to last year. Flu, pneumonia and shingles vaccines which are quite essential especially for the elderly are experiencing a huge drop in demand. One does not want to be a Cassandra but the shunning of vaccines may lead to serious outbreaks of the diseases that they prevent or control. It is probably best to counteract the panic by giving out information, based on facts, regarding the need for vaccines, their use and their results. And vaccines must again find their rightful place in preventive medicine in this country.
