The military is ready to provide security for exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Jose Maria “Joma” Sison if he will come home, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. said on Thursday. “Definitely, [we are open to provide him security], it is like how we are dealing with the consultants since we saw that nothing is happening with them,” he added. Galvez made the assurance in the wake of Sison’s statement that he was willing to return to the Philippines. “I welcome the assurance of safety by President Duterte [and]it is much better that there is such an assurance,” Sison said in a statement. Duterte made the guarantee to the exiled communist leader during the change of command ceremony of the Presidential Security Group held in Malacañang on Wednesday.
