Uttar Pradesh polls 2017: EC orders vulnerability mapping of booths


Gearing up for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh due early in 2017, the Election Commission on Wednesday held meeting with District Election Officers (DEOs) in Lucknow and directed them to start vulnerability mapping of polling booths. Sector magistrates and zonal magistrates will be appointed soon for carrying out vulnerability mapping, which will begin from September onwards. The EVMs will be brought from Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where polls were held in April-May this year. At present, there are around 1.40 lakh polling booths in the state and officials said, the number could increase in process of rationalisation, the CEO said. Manufacturing of VVPAT is still in process,” said Arun Singhal, chief electoral officer of UP.
