Urjit Patel New Delhi, Jan. 18: Reserve Bank governor Urjit Patel today said the central bank had pumped Rs 9.2 lakh crore into the banking system in new currency but ducked MPs' questions on the volume of cash deposits in banks since the November 8 demonetisation. The finance ministry had said on December 15 that Rs 5 lakh crore worth of new notes had been printed. He replied: "The acts that give autonomy to the central bank had not been infringed." Former finance minister P. Chidambaram has accused the government of imposing the decision on the central bank and claimed that the RBI's central board of directors was not party to the decision. Responsibility lies at the doorsteps of (the) RBI governor for this erosion of credibility.
