Unidentified disease in Sitakunda: 12 more with similar symptoms hospitalised

Twelve more children have been admitted to hospitals with symptoms similar to that of a yet unknown disease that recently claimed nine lives in a remote Tripura village in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila. Until now, 43 children suffering from the unidentified disease are being treated at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) while 22 others are at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Two separate committees were formed by the Chittagong Civil Surgeon’s Office and Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex on Thursday to investigate the outbreak of the disease at Tripurapara. Last week, nine children from the remote village died from the yet unidentified disease. Chittagong civil surgeon has said that government health workers never visited the village to provide medical services to the residents.
