Uncertainty has gripped Ukambani leaders fronting themselves as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s point men in the region. There are concerns that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will overshadow them during Uhuru’s tour which begins today. Cord co-chairman and Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama said Ukambani leaders scrambling for the opportunity to take charge of Uhuru’s tour are “juniors who can’t match Kalonzo’s political prowess”. Uhuru’s handlers preparing his visits have kept the leaders in darkness in what is seen as a strategy to avoid sideshows. Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu and other Wiper leaders who have rebelled against the party want to take credit for the tour.
