Among those honoured was Mr Zhang Ming, the vice-minister for Foreign Affairs. Mr Zhang was Beijing’s envoy to Nairobi from 2006 to 2009 and oversaw the initial SGR talks. BEIJING VISITHis successor, Mr Liu Guangyuan, was also decorated with the third class MBS on Madaraka Day. Mr Liu was China’s ambassador to Kenya from 2010 to 2014 and was part of the team that organised President Kenyatta’s first state visit to Beijing, in August 2013.
