MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines finally ended a 32-year finals drought after turning back No. 2 seed Adamson University, 89-87, in overtime in their do-or-die match in the 81st UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the jampacked Araneta Coliseum. Gomez de Liano led the Fighting Maroons with 30 points, 25 came in the first three quarters as UP led by as high as 16 points, 60-44, midway in the third period. Desideiro finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Akhuetie, who was slowed down by cramps in the second half, added 13 points and 17 boards. Jerrick Ahanmisi, who had only nine in their 71-73 loss last Saturday, led Adamson with 20 points while Lastimosa and Papi Sarr contributed 17 and 16 points, respectively.
