The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, reaffirmed Wednesday that finding a Special Representative of the Secretary-General) for the United Nations Support Mission In Libya (UNSMIL) is a “very” high priority for the UN. During the UN’s daily briefing, Dujarric was asked how much of a priority is it for the Secretary‑General to find a new UN Special Representative in Libya. The Security Council adopted a British motion earlier to extend the UNSMIL mandate for three months. However, the member states were unable to settle their differences over who would head the UN mission in Libya. In this context, the African countries and Russia insist that the new UN envoy should be from Africa, while Britain, the United States, and most European countries oppose this approach.
