Libyan truck drivers detained in Chad released

The Director of the Media Office of Al-Kufra Municipality, Abdullah Suleiman, confirmed the release of Libyan truck drivers who had been detained by armed groups in Chad after their arrival there. Social media platforms had circulated a shocking video showing armed Chadians whipping a number of Libyan truck drivers. The footage sparked widespread public outrage in Libya, along with official and popular calls to ensure full protection for truck drivers working on cross-border transport routes. The council strongly condemned what it described as a blatant violation of human rights, stressing that the incident threatens the security and safety of citizens and undermines stability in the region. It also announced the suspension of truck traffic to and from Chad through the jurisdiction of Al-Kufra Municipality as a temporary precautionary measure, until the drivers’ safety is guaranteed and secured.
