UAE fine of Rs 87 lakh for driving test jibe

Dubai: An Indian worker in the UAE has been fined around Rs 87 lakh for an "offensive" email to the country's transport authority, claiming it rips off the poor after he flunked a driving test, a media report said on Tuesday. The Dubai Court of First Instance also jailed the accused for three months although he had pleaded not guilty and maintained that he had been frustrated after he failed his driving test, the Gulf News reported. The 25-year-old Indian worker had ridiculed the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and said it took "poor people's money by making them intentionally fail in driving tests and forcing them to repeat the tests", the report said. The RTA had received from the worker an email that it deemed insulting and disdaining, the report said. The RTA's department concerned took immediate legal action against him for sending the "offensive and disparaging" email and reported it to Dubai police.
