Two-year-old Fatehvir Singh pulled out dead from borewell shaft after 110 hours, villagers bid tearful farewell


A village in Punjab’s Sangrur district bid a final farewell on June 11 to two-year-old Fatehvir Singh, pulled out dead from a borewell shaft after an unsuccessful rescue operation which lasted over four days. Rescue workers pulled out the toddler at 4.45 a.m., after he had remained stuck in the shaft for nearly 110 hours, an official said. The child turned two on June 10, when he was still stuck at the depth of 125 feet in the 150-foot borewell shaft. Another villager said, “When the child was pulled out, he was already dead. Fatehvir fell into the disused borewell shaft while playing in the fields at Bhagwanpura village around 4 p.m. on June 6.
