Republican leaders are battening down the hatches as China targets Trump voters with trade tariffs and the White House faces more fallout from the Russia investigation. Mitch McConnell, the senior Republican in the Senate, has warned his party that November’s midterm elections could carry the destructive force of a tropical storm. “The wind is going to be in our face,” he said. “We don’t know whether it’s going to be a category three, four or five.”Last night Mr Trump threatened to increase trade penalties on China by putting tariffs on $100 billion of imports.
