Triple Talaq: Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day after ruckus over Govt's refusal to send Bill to select panel

There was massive uproar in Rajya Sabha today as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley categorically told the agitating Opposition members that the Bill outlawing instant triple talaq (The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017) cannot be referred to a select committee for review. Congress' Anand Sharma moves notice stating that #TripleTalaqBill be referred to a Select Committee of #RajyaSabha, also proposes names of committee members. The Law Minister said the Grand Old Party had supported the Bill in the Lok Sabha, but had taken a completely divergent view in the Rajya Sabha. Congress leader Anand Sharma said his party had been "regular talks with Chairman, government and parties in (the) Rajya Sabha."
