The Narendra Modi cabinet has approved the establishment of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The new AIIMS, a second branch of India's premier medical institute, will be built within two years at a cost of Rs 1,351 crore. Each year, its medical college will admit 100 MBBS students and its nursing college will enroll 60 B.Sc (Nursing) students. The government said in a release published on Twitter that the establishment of the news AIIMS will "help create a large pool of doctors and other health workers in the region, who would be available for primary and secondary level institutions...[and]...facilities being created under [the] National Health Mission."
