Only Mv Nyayo and Mv Likoni were operational with the crisis forcing many to wait longer than the normal 10 minutes it takes to cross to the Mombasa Island. There was a heavy jam at Likoni channel on Saturday after two ferries stalled due to a mechanical problem. Four vessels namely MVs Kwale, Kilindini, Nyayo and Likoni transport people, goods and vehicles across the ocean on daily basis. Several people, including tourists, were caught in the huge traffic at the crossing point which stretched for more than 1 kilometre. Ali Bambanya, a taxi driver from Diani south coast, said that he stayed for four hours at the crossing channel with tourists from France whom he had gone to pick from Moi International Airport.
