Toronto cop ordered to resign for lying to murder probe: ‘The service has good reason to distrust his word’

A Toronto police constable will keep his job and salary while he appeals an order to resign or be dismissed for lying to a detective investigating a murder. Daniel Costa learned his fate at the Toronto police disciplinary tribunal Thursday, as Insp. Costa, who pleaded guilty to one count of deceit and one count of insubordination, was given seven days to resign. Investigators with York Regional Police designated Costa’s brother, Michael, a person of interest and interviewed him on July 7, 2011, according to a summary of Const. Costa’s disciplinary proceeding.
