But the higher success rate for matric students has highlighted the limited number of seats available at public colleges, as well as the lack of resources at their disposal. Last year, the number of matriculating students in the science and general group matric exams was 123,813. A total of 100,280 students passed with C, D and E grades under the promotion policy this year, as opposed to only 39,498 students who matriculated with these grades the previous year. Of the 123,813 students who matriculated last year, over 90,000 students enrolled in the said institutions. Only 1,405 'extra' students have passed with A1 grades, 469 with A grades and 2,675 with B grades.
