TAIPEI -- Taiwanese dads had a poor showing on the Child Welfare League Foundation's "report card for dads" released Tuesday to coincide with Father's Day. The child welfare group gave dads an average score of 60 out of 100 for their relationship with their kids, as reported by schoolchildren in surveys. Nearly 83 percent of them described their dads as "great" and 71.6 percent said they felt close to their fathers. That's much lower than the 73.5 percent international average reported in the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study, the Child Welfare League Foundation said. Asked why they didn't like talking to their fathers, the children listed top reasons including their dads' absentmindedness, their tendency to lecture and their being distracted by electronic products.
