SYDNEY - Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced Tuesday his intention to persist with a popular vote on same-sex marriage. The Prime Minister said he supported same-sex marriage but respected other views on the issue. In September, the government failed in its first attempt to push the same-sex marriage plebiscite bill through the parliament's upper house. They also said a postal vote could be unconstitutional and might be challenged in the High Court, local media reported. Australian Marriage Equality co-chair Alex Greenwich said the government's approach to marriage equality had gone "well beyond a joke."
